The naked eye can't tell the difference between the two. It's actually almost impossible to tell unless you place them on a pure white background, side by side, then view them under magnification. Grades below I may show a difference if you know your diamonds, but most people still can't tell the difference.

The point here is that no one should ever pay more for a higher grade diamond if they can't see the difference between it and one that's supposedly lower in quality. Leave the finest diamonds for the very rich - after all, the difference can only be seen with a microscope!

After all, there's a big difference in price, even if there's not one in appearance. You could pay thousands of dollars less. Most jewelery stores try to encourage customers to buy higher grades, since they're technically better quality, and most people listen - paying a lot more than they should.

That's just one example of ways to save money on an engagement ring. Picking a diamond that has a lower color grading but doesn't look different to the naked eye will allow you to buy a much bigger diamond for the same amount of money. In the US Christmas tradition, the dinner table flaunts the fantasies of taste buds. The menu consists of roasted turkey or ham. Potatoes and pie which include my favorites during the season. Apart from every other savory delicacies prepared, the "Crostoli" makes the winning move on the tongue.

One of the most unique features of your diamond jewelry is the individual certificate of identity called the diamond grading certificate. Like people (and some pet animals), your stone's authenticity and individuality is officially confirmed with this certificate.

This is actually a report given by an independent gemological laboratory. There are a number of gemological laboratories which hand out these certificates.

However, only a few are respected by the whole diamond industry. The most well-known are the European Gemological Laboratories (EGL) and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

Individual stones

Each diamond is unique. This individual evaluation is strictly for the diamond's quality, not its value.

The certificate maps out inclusions (imperfections), which are hand-drawn. This authenticates the diamond's unique identity, since no two stones are exactly alike.

Certificate details

The first information (alongside the issue date of the report) is the Stone ID. This is a unique number assigned to your diamond and registered in a global database.

Next listed is the diamond's cut and shape. If the shape is different from the standard round brilliant, it is called a fancy shape.

The dimensions are listed down as "largest diameter - smallest diameter X depth" for the round shapes. The others are listed as "length X width X depth".

The weight is listed in carats, the standard unit of weights used for gemstones. (One carat is 200 milligrams.)

The grain lines reflect irregularities in the crystal structure. These are reported as colorless, white, colored or reflective.

The angles and measurements of the diamond that determine its optical properties are duly noted. Table size, crown angle and pavilion depth affect the stone's appearance.

The certificate indicates the thickness of the girdle (the outside edge of the stone) relative to the diamond's size, and whether it is polished or faceted.

The culet (the stone's bottom point) is listed either faceted or not. If faceted, it is noted relative to the size of the stone.

The grades of the diamond's finish and polish are noted and described including the symmetry. Color is graded, too, from D (colorless) all the way to Z (yellow).

Symmetry is the arrangement of the stone's facets (surfaces) and finished angles. Grading reports describe them accordingly, whether they are excellent, very good, good, fair or poor.

The cut is listed as well as the quality of the stone's clarity. The clarity is the absence of inclusions (blemishes) and graded from "flawless" to "included" based on the size, nature, position and quantity of the inclusions.

The certificate also notes the pavilion depth (distance from the girdle to the culet) which affects brilliance. Deviations from the Tolkowsky ideal cut are also carefully documented.

Most diamonds "fluoresce" (showing whitish, yellowish, or bluish tint) when exposed to ultraviolet light. They are only stated in the report, not graded.

Finally, there is a diagram on the certificate that approximates the shape and cut of the diamond. It has markings (in symbols) that include the type, nature, position, and approximate size of a clarity characteristic.

Gem quality

Coming from a leading gemological laboratory (the EGL mark appears under ultraviolet light), the certificate will ensure that your diamond jewelry has the quality you paid for. Do your diamonds have certificates?

James Caan and Bob Newhart are fabulous, as is Ferrell, which makes this movie not only funny but very well done.

It's a Wonderful Life (1946) This movie is a Must See Movie. James Stewart and Donna Reed shine in this delightful and timeless story of a family's love and strength during good times and bad. Sacrificing his youthful dreams to support his family and his small town, George Bailey settles into a life he didn't intend. When his hopes for a good life are almost shattered by an evil manipulator, he is sent a guardian angel who's arrived fresh from Heaven to earn his wings. George learns, with the help of a little magic by his angel, that all is not lost when you live a good life with a good family and lots of wonderful friends. And, when all is said and done, that's what really matters.

The Santa Clause (1994) If your son told you he was at the North Pole last night, would you believe him? If you're Santa you would! The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) The entire Muppet ensemble is turned out in classic costume for this remake of the literary masterpiece. Featuring Michael Caine, in person, as Ebeneezer Scrooge, this Christmas classic is well done and extremely entertaining. Charles Dickens is played beautifully by the Great Gonzo, and who doesn't find that funny! The Muppets bring this classic tale to children using a lighthearted approach with laughter and music. The ghost scenes are not too dramatic or scary. This is a movie made for kids and grown ups alike.

Oh the Holidays... The crisp snap of the winter breeze, lights emerging from every corner imaginable; illuminating the evening skies like the sun just squeezed itself through the screen door. It's a time for celebration, a time for reflection. For smiles, and long overdue embraces that have sat on shelves collecting the dust of neglect.

For too many people the world over, this holiday brings with it a new anticipation. The close of the year is upon us, the months passed have been marked with a collective anxiety of what is to come. Will it get better? Has the worst of it passed? What will I do next year?

Entrepreneurs are not immune to these same moments of uncertainty, however when one has the reigns in their hands the navigation of these troublesome times is infinitely easier.

This Holiday season holds a special anticipation for me personally. The birth of my second child is imminent (and I mean imminent, the bag is packed by the door). I know many of you reading this are parents as well. You know all too well the worry and the hope. The desire for everything to be better for them, than it was for you. It's why we put in the hours, sacrifice daily, sleep less, desire more.

As I think of all the things I must teach my baby girl in the coming years; reading, potty training, table manners and the like, it has occurred to me that what I want her to know most of all is that it matters not where you're from or where you are, it's where you are going. (I've also gotten some great advice from experienced family man and my business partner, Aaron Parkinson.)

We are all someone's children. We all have a hometown, a first kiss, a first disappointment, a first job. But the reality is these things, while important in the shape of our being, have no bearing on where our lives may take us. What we desire in life, what we desire for our children, lies ahead and not behind us.

As we come into this new year, let's embrace the promise of infinite possibility. Forget whatever hurdle or misstep may have plagued you this past year and focus on where you want to be.

After all, it doesn't matter where you're from, it's about where you're going.

Habs Rip Struggling Islanders

The Montreal Canadiens have gotten off to a slow start this season, and entered Thursday night's game against the New York Islanders having gone thirteen games without a win in regulation dating back to last season. Apparently, all they needed to cure their ails was a team that was struggling more than they are. The Islanders only have one win on the season, and the Habs jumped on them early scoring three goals in the first two periods en route to a 5-1 victory at the Bell Centre.

NHL hockey betting devotees who weren't scared away by the -180 home favorite price tag on Montreal cashed their tickets with the Canadiens' big win. It was the sixth win for the Habs in their last eight meetings with the Islanders. The six goals scored just managed to go OVER the posted total of 5'. The Canadiens went OVER for only the fourth time in nine games, while the Islanders have gone OVER in five of their nine contests.

The sputtering Montreal offense finally woke up, helped by a 43-22 shots on goal advantage. When Montreal opened a 2-0 lead in the first period it marked the first time this season that they'd led by more than a goal, a fact that surprised left winger Mike Cammalleri:

"We're making it hard on ourselves. That's something -- I didn't realize that until right now but that makes sense. Every game's been so tight, and it's important to try and win in tight games and find ways to win those games but at the same time you can't do that 82 times a year and then however many games in the playoffs, so it was important to get out to a little bit of a lead and hang on to one tonight."

Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halek played well in relief of starter Carey Price, but lost his shutout bid when he misplayed a puck just seconds into the final period. Cammalleri described a conversation he had with Halek after the game:

"After the game I went to give him a hug and he said, 'I don't like shutouts. And I said, 'Well, you better like shutouts!' But he played great when we needed him tonight, made some solid saves, and we'll let that one go."

Islanders' coach Scott Gordon admitted that his team's listless play made it easy for the Habs' to dominate:

"We were a pretty easy team to play against. Defensively we were on our heels because of all our turnovers and it wasn't just in one area, it was coming out of our zone, it was situations where we had full control of the puck and we're not making plays. It's probably the worst that I've ever seen it tonight and it's something that we've got to get better at."

Montreal plays their next two games at home, hosting the New York Rangers on Saturday night and welcoming the Islanders back to the Bell Centre for another game next Monday night. The Islanders have a Saturday night home game against the Washington Capitals before their return engagement with Montreal. They'll then return home to play their regional rivals the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

The Washington Redskins are a mess right now. Head coach Jim Zorn has a tenuous hold on his job at best and after Sunday's---6 loss to Kansas City was stripped of his offensive play calling duties. Management installed newly hired 'offensive consultant' Sherman Lewis as the new offensive play caller and the team has set up an awkward arrangement for him to get the plays to the quarterbacks. For that reason, starting QB Jason Campbell has some serious misgivings about the efficacy of the setup.

Lewis has only been out of retirement and with the team for two weeks, and has spent this week trying to ingest a crash course on the Redskins' offensive schemes. While he was learning on the job, head coach Zorn was trying to put the best spin possible on what can only be seen as a de facto demotion and vote of 'no confidence':

"I need to have composure. I need to understand what the reality of the situation is, and I think our players expect me to rise up. We expect them to play under adverse conditions. We expect them to risk it all. ... I'm conscious of what's going on. I'm not naive about what's going on, and yet I have to just hold back on any feelings and make the decisions."

Quarterback Campbell is more concerned about the convoluted system of getting plays from Lewis to him:

"There'll probably be a couple of plays I have in my head just in case if some reason it doesn't get in on time."

Here's how things are supposed to work-Lewis will sit in the coaches' box above the field and read the plays off a sheet. While Lewis has years of experience working in the so called 'West Coast Offense', Zorn left doubt that he really knows what he's doing at this point stressing that Lewis "doesn't know the protections" and "doesn't know the blitz schemes." Nevertheless, he'll be running the offense when the Redskins take on Philadelphia this Monday night.

Once Lewis figures out what to call, that's when it really gets tricky. He'll relay the plays via headset not to Zorn but to offensive coordinator Sherman Smith. Smith will then inform the quarterback what to run. Zorn is left in the role of a passive bystander on offense, though he will listen in to the playcalling on his headset.

Backup quarterback Todd Collins also shared his concern with the new arrangement:

"It is unsettling. I've never gone through this before. I've never had a play caller get changed in the middle of the season."

Lewis didn't exactly evoke a lot of confidence upon his hiring, where he revealed that he'd been calling bingo games at a seniors' center to kill time since his retirement in 2004. Still, Collins gave him a guarded vote of confidence;

"I know he's been studying last year's game against the Eagles and seems to have a pretty good idea how he wants to call the game this week. It's the same plays. He might coach them a little differently or highlight some different areas, but the offense hasn't gone under an overhaul or anything like that."

The Redskins haven't scored more than 17 points in a game this season, so maybe the thinking is that things can't get any worse.
